How to paint different surfaces

Application

Stir Nuroof thoroughly with a flat paddle
Apply by brush, roller or airless spray
Nuroof must be applied undiluted
For non-porous surfaces, such as galvanised iron, apply two coats without diluting to achieve a minimum dry film thickness of 50 microns
For extremely porous surfaces, such as unpainted cement, slurry coated tiles, clay and well weathered tiles, apply undiluted Plascon bonding liquid (CVI 14), allow to dry for 8hrs before applying Nuroof. Nuroof must be applied within 48hrs. If 48hr period is exceeded, sand surface to a uniform matt finish and clean. Then apply 2 full coats of undiluted Nuroof to achieve a minimum dry film thickness of 50 microns.
Allow at least 1 hr drying time between coats of Nuroof
Clean equipment with water.

Galvanised Roof
Corrugated, IBR

Previously Unpainted:

Clean with Plascon Galvanised Iron Cleaner (GCI) to achieve a water break free surface. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water. Then prime with Plascon Galvanised iron primer (GIP 1). Areas showing red rust must be abraded back to bright metal and the whole surface then primed with Galvanised Iron Primer (GIP 1).

Previously Painted:

Clean with a high pressure water jet to remove all loose paint, chalk and dirt. Alternatively use wire brushing, scraping, sanding etc. and then scrub with a hard bristle brush and water. Clean with Plascon Galvanised Iron Cleaner (GCI 1) to achieve a water break free surface. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water. The prime with Plascon Galavanised Iron Primer (GIP 1). Areas showing red must be abraded back to bright metal and the whole surface then primed with Plascon Galvanised Iron Primer (GIP 1).

Previously Unpainted:

Remove dust, dirt, loose granules, friable and powdery material with a high pressure water jet or scrubbing with a hard bristle brush and water. Allow surface to dry.

Previously Painted:

Painted substrates in good condition:

Remove dust, dirt, loose granules, all loose paint, friable and powdery material with a high pressure water jet or by scrubbing with a hard bristle brush and water.

Allow surface to dry.

The painting of unpainted cement, slurry coated tiles, clay and well weathered tiles, is not normally recommended, unless the correct primer is used. Remove dust, dirt, loose granules, friable and powdery material with a high pressure water jet or scrubbing with a hard bristle brush and water. Allow surface to dry. For extremely porous surfaces, such as unpainted cement, slurry coated tiles, clay and well weathered tiles, apply undiluted Plascon Bonding Liquid (CVI 14), allow to dry for 8 hrs before applying Nuroof. Nuroof must be applied within 48hrs. If 48 hr period is exceeded, sand surface to a uniform matt finish ands clean. Why should I paint my roof?

Protection

Cementitious and galvanized substrates are adversely affected by atmospheric acidic elements. Plascon Nuroof forms a barrier to such elements, thus enhancing or promoting the longevity of the substrate or roof.

Why should I paint?

Best times to paint

Mid morning after the dew has dried, and before the temperature of the roof has risen to 50 degress Celsius. e midday
Restart in the early afternoon and continue until mid afternoon

Do not paint during the following times

Early in the morning, as it may still be covered in dew or frost from the night before, which will damage the paint film
Late in the afternoon, as there won't be enough time for the paint to dry before early morning dew
When the roof is extremely hot, e.g. at noon on a very hot day, as small bubbles will form in the paint and weaken the film
During inclement weather, as rain may spoil the paint before it dries

Note: Painting under the above conditions may effect performance of the paint film.

How much paint do I need?

To make sure that you don't buy too much paint, or need to rush back to the store for more paint halfway through the job, use this simple calculation to work out how much you will need.

Practical spreading rate (per coat)
Cement tiles and Fibre cement sheeting:	7m / l (typical)
Galvanised Iron:	9m / l (typical)
Granular Cement tiles:	2-4m / l (typical)

Note: Extremely coarse surfaces and surface profile will effect the spreading rate.

Calculating the surface area of the roof

Step 1: Calculate the flat square metre area
Step 2: Adjust to the pitch of the roof by adding the following %

Calculating the quantity of paint required

You now have the total area of the roof in square metres.
Divide that figure by the average spreading rate of paint for the particular roof surface. This will give you the number of litres of paint required per coat

Multiply by 2 to obtain the total number of litres for two coats.

Plascon Plaster Primer acts as a barrier between new alkaline plaster and subsequent topcoats. It may also be used as a binding agent for soft and powdery plaster, and as a sealer on exceptionally porous surfaces.

USES:

As a barrier coat on alkaline substrates such as interior and exterior cement plaster, concrete and fibre-cement to protect subsequent coats, such as alkyd paints, against saponification.
As a binding and sealing coat on soft and brittle cement plaster, porous paperface board, brickwork, softboard and gypsum plaster.

Plascon Wood Primer penetrates and seals the wood, and creates a strong bond for subsequent coats of paint.

USES:

It is designed specifically for use on interior and exterior new and unpainted hard and soft wood. Also used on wooden chip board surfaces.
